A Man of Some Importance

Just in time for the real thing, solicitor Jacqui Kelly has written her first novel about a lawyer who decides to run for President of Ireland. His name is Patrick Devoy Kavanagh. In public he is a man at the top of his game – a celebrity lawyer, chat-show regular and a patron of numerous children’s charities. Behind the scenes he is drowning in debt, his legal practice is haemorrhaging clients and his PA is expecting his child. So why not run for President of Ireland – he has all the skills, he can talk for Ireland and it would sort out his money issues? So he begins the process of securing four nominations from the county councils. Will he succeed or will his inconvenient past get in his way?

First review:
Was delighted to find A Man of Some Importance had arrived in the post. Took it with me to read at lunch. At that stage a pal had received a screenshot and replied that she was placing an order. You had me hooked from paragraph one, by the way.
Got so engrossed in reading my copy that two customers alongside me in a restaurant in Skerries asked if they could look at the book. Also asked would I recommend it and could they take photo of cover so they could place orders.
Fast forward to ten past four the following morning: I could not put the book down ‘til I’d finished! Jacqui, I had so many laughs along Patrick’s envisaged route to election. I could almost see the characters in front of me as I read about their antics. Dialogue was spectacular and the ending did not disappoint. Loved it, in fact. In short: a really great read.
I’m hoping to catch the next instalment of Patrick Devoy Kavanagh before long and so I can find out what happens next.

Second review:
On the plane to Spain. A fellow traveller next to me said “I bought that book online ‘cos I was in a cafe and saw someone laughing out loud like you. Looking forward to reading it now.” I finished it since and loved it.

Third review:
Just finished your book. A fun read. You’ve definitely got the storyteller’s gift. So many characters just sprung to life – good, bad and ugly. Keep writing.

Fourth review:
I really enjoyed every page of your book. So D4! It is an excellent read.

Fifth review: Halfway through Jacqui’s book. Loving it. Just laughed out loud on the bus.

Sixth review: Just finished this hugely entertaining book. Well done on a brilliant debut.

Seventh review: I read your book as I winged my way across the Atlantic from London to Toronto. It was a perfect read for the long journey. Patrick Devoy Kavanagh is quite a character. Your book is funny, sad, sexy but also captures to-day’s politicians – all spin and photo ops.

Eighth review: Thanks you for a copy of your book. I finished it last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just hope there is a sequel.

Ninth review: I enjoyed it especially as I was reading it on the last week of the election to the Park.

Tenth review: Very readable, funny and the caricatures are a strand of Dublin society.
